I signed up for a running clinic in an effort to get out of my comfort zone this summer. I also just needed something to keep me busy now that I don't have school work to drown myself in. It's a 10-week program, I'm short only 35 dollars, and will be getting a free running shirt out of it. You're paying money to run? What is wrong with you? Yes, I agree, but otherwise I would never run and would just spend my Monday evenings doing nothing. I also made my friend sign up with me so it'll be a healthy and cost-effective way to meet up with her every week!
So today was the first week - 6:15pm sharp, out the door. In the pouring rain and 10 degrees because it's Vanouver and only mid-May. It was absolutely miserable. In terms of my body, my legs were fine, my sides weren't hurting or anything, but my breaths were very out of whack. This was a little frustrating because I was totally fine but I had to take breaks and walk for parts of the 5k. I asked the instructor about it afterwards about it and he told me my lungs just aren't "running lungs" yet. I guess that's why it's a 10 week program and we have homework.
It's still raining as I type this at 9:00pm. Hearing the raindrops against the window is kind of calming, something I didn't have at my old place, or ever actually, since moving out of my parents' house in 2012). I was extremely cold and hungry after getting home, so I ate 1/2lb of tomatoes and a head of broccoli. (Don't worry, the broccoli was covered in mayonaise so my meal was definitely not as healthy as I'm making it sound.) Now I'm off to take a nice warm shower and a nice long stretch afterwards.
I hope your Monday night was as productive and relaxing as mine.
