KELOWNA || Game Night and Chocolates

Day 2 was our first full day in Kelowna and you can read about the wineries we visited here. I had been casually drinking since noon all the way till dinner so I was quite pooped (excuse my language). We had stuffed ourselves with a delicious homemade feast, limped around in a food coma, and went through our options as to what to do next. We sipped on more wine, brewed some tea, opened a box of Purdy's chocolates, and we started a game of Pandemic! I couldn't help but smile that the couple (both of whom are doctors) owned a board game about saving the planet from viruses. If you are looking for a board game that is nothing like Risk, this one is the way to go! It might be my new favourite. You work together to beat the game instead of competing against each other and getting way too heated about which continent to invade next.

I never was the type to plan trips to the minute, but if you are, you might be thinking, why are you staying in? Go explore the city! You can play board games back home. Being in a new city and sleeping in a different bed can be exhausting, and I cherish nights like these because it helps me recharge before going on more adventures the next day. Sometimes I "plan" these into my loosely-defined schedule, but there's something about letting the wind fly me around when it comes to these things. Relax when I want to, go out when I want to.. isn't that what vacations are supposed to be all about?

When my family travelled, we collected cards from all the different places we visited and we would play them whenever we had free time out on the road. I vividly remember playing cards on the grass in Washington DC, while waiting for some talk or concert to begin. It was sunny. My mom was wearing a visor, and my dad a pair of flip-flops. This was when I was around 8 years old? So I guess these travelling habits stayed with me. Playing games and just doing normal-everyday things in new cities.

Are you also like this when you travel?
